MY TOP 5 THINGS TO DO IN LA

image

I spend my time between Sydney and LA.  When I’m in the City of Angels you’ll usually catch me in one of my 5 favourite places.

RIDE – Cycle along the beach from Santa Monica to Venice. Renting a bike in Santa Monica is simple and cheap. Sea Mist Rentals, 161 Ocean Front Walk Santa Monica is my favorite. They charge $6 an hour or $15 for the whole day. Make sure you bring some form of ID (either passport or license is fine) I love to stop along the way to Venice and relax in a deck chair, sip on a refreshing lemonade at one of the little beachside shack’s and people watch! So many characters make their way along the promenade it’ll keep you entertained for hours

The best way to see the action at the beach.

HIKE – Hike Runyon Canyon.  Not only is it excellent exercise it’s also great star spotting territory! It’s a favorite among the celebrity set who come here to walk their dogs and catch up with friends while burning some calories (also a favorite for celebs) There are different levels which you can attack Runyon, so it’s a good option for people of all different fitness levels.  Also check out Runyon’s free Yoga classes in the park. There is also a great view from the top and its particularly stunning at sunset.

SHOP – Fairfax markets. Located at the Fairfax High School on the corner of Fairfax and Melrose Avenues, it cost’s 3 dollars to get in and is open every Sunday rain or shine.  This fun little market has something for everyone -vintage clothing, leather jackets, boots, dresses, jewellery, pins, belts, hats, furniture, mirrors, statues, table decorations, oil paintings, wooden carvings, canvas prints, action figures, cartoon cells, vintage video game systems and games to name but a few! There is also live music and delicious food to make a real day of it.  My favorite finds at the eclectic market  have been a great pair of denim shorts and several vintage t-shirts.

RELAX – Paradise Cove. Open seven days a week sunrise to sunset this beautiful beach cafe is located right on the beach in Malibu with it’s own private beach and cove. This buzzing little bay is the perfect place to relax with friends and family. The menu is huge so no one will go hungry or just relax on one of the beach chairs with a drink. Located on the Pacific Coast Highway it’s an easy drive from most Hollywood hotels.

EVENING UNDER THE STARS – Hollywood bowl.  Used primarily for music concerts the historic 1920‘s amphitheater in Hollywood is easily the best venue I have been to watch a concert.  Everyone from The Beatles, Louis Armstrong, Elton John, and Andrea Bocelli  have performed here. The best part is you can pack your own picnic and wine and if the weather is fine (like most evenings in Hollywood) watching a concert under the stars is a magic night out! Check out http://www.hollywoodbowl.com  for performances, ticket purchases etc.
