The Ultimate Girls Weekend at The Star.

My Mum lives interstate, and when she comes to visit me in Sydney I always organise something special. I’ll normally take her out to a great restaurant or a trip out on the harbour, try to spoil her a little.  This weekend I planned a couple of days of utter indulgence and I do believe locked in the title “daughter of the year”.

I picked Mum up from the airport and we headed straight to The Darling at The Star.  We were met by the extremely friendly staff  and shown to our impressive suite.  Excited we leapt on the bed, felt the sheets, admired the swanky bathroom, studied the view, played with the high-tech tv remote which also opened and closed the curtains and regulated the temperature!

We threw on some fun threads and headed to dinner. As a regular at  Sokyo located within The Darling Mum insisted I did the ordering. I asked for my favourites, hoping she would love them too.

Bingo!  Mum and I ate and DEVOURED:

Kingfish Miso Ceviche $20

Wagyu 9+Short Rib Tataki $29

Cuttlefish $16 – Chilli de arbol, tarragon ponzu sauce

Asparagus $12 - Truffle poke sauce, edamame dip

DengakuMan $38 - Caramelised miso cod, japanese salsa, cucumber salad

Beef $17 - Short rib, caramelised eshallots,

Spicy Sashimi Salad $22 - Cherry tomato, cucumber, smoke poke vinaigrette

SOKYO NIGIRI (4 pieces)

Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice $20 - Crispy Nigiri, truffle salt, spicy mayo

The Chef’s Dessert Sampler $26 - The Chef selects 4 desserts off the menu and I promise it NEVER disappoints! The Sokyo “Mochi Ice Cream” is my favourite and I always order two serves! Yatsuhashi kyoto mochi, frozen strawberry milk shake is a taste sensation.

Superbly satisfied we hit the 100 thread count Egyptian cotton sheets  and dreamt of the decadent day which lay ahead.

Fresh OJ, croissants and coffee were on the menu in the morning, we kept it light as lunch at Black by Ezard was on the agenda and trust me, you want an appetite for that.  Every Sunday Black by Ezard offer a three-course meal and endless Moet for $125pp.

Cheers to endless bubbles!

We let the blissful bubbles tickle our tummies and enjoyed three delicious courses, then it was off to the Spa…hello heaven!

The Spa at The Darling is one of Sydney’s most luxurious spas which takes pampering to all new levels and features unique treatments only offered at selected spas world-wide.   From the moment we entered the spa the experience began, the beautiful staff made sure we were 100% comfortable and once we’d changed into our robes and slippers we were lead to our treatment rooms.

Robe'd and ready for relaxation.

There are 16 private rooms within this luxurious urban resort spa, including a beautiful and intimate couple’s treatment room and a room with an indulgent hamam.

The inner city spa escape offers a range of services, from shorter fifteen minute beauty treatments to full scale four and a half hour pampering sessions. Mum and I had the one hour swedish massage. The heated beds and delicious la Prairie scent sprayed around the room settled me into the a deep relaxation even before “magic fingers” went to work.

The Spa also features an extensive array of Asian, European and local inspired treatments combining Eastern and Western techniques, some of which have never before been offered in Sydney spas. In addition, the Spa is also Sydney’s exclusive home of luxury Swiss beauty range la Prairie.

Needless to say we floated out of there, glowing and relaxed.

Regretfully we departed The Darling.  The drive home was spent trying to work out when we could pop back for another decadent girls weekend!

Happy Travels. Laura xx
