Nobu Malibu would have to be one of my favourite places to have a long lunch or dinner. I like to arrive right before sunset and settle in with a pre-dinner cocktail. The restaurant sits right on the beach, so you can relax and watch the waves roll in.
I hit the jackpot recently when I took my boyfriend there for his birthday dinner as we had a full moon which came up over the ocean like a glowing orange ball and lit up the night sky. A few cocktails and delicious sushi made for one of the most memorable nights I’ve had in LA.
What we ate:
For starters Josh and I shared Yellowtail Sashimi with jalapeno $24, Shashimi salad $28, seaweed salad $12.
For mains we shared my favourite the Black cod with miso $34 and the Beef “Toban” Yaki $30.
For dessert we had the white chocolate Sake Cream and the Strawberry Rhubarb Donabe both $13. With a candle on top of course!
Where we sat: We were lucky enough to jag a seat outside in the patio area. These are hard to score unless you have booked well in advance.
What we drank: Asahi beer and Grey Goose martini’s dirty with olives.
Tips for reservations:
Make sure you book well in advance even before you embark on your trip if you live abroad. If you are staying at a hotel get concierge to make the booking for you, they generally have more pull. Always request an outside table and get there early to enjoy a drink out on the deck and watch the Malibu sunset.
Nobu Malibu opened in October 1999 and has since recently transitioned from its original location to a new beachfront property located at 22706 Pacific Coast Highway. Views of the ocean are available from nearly every seat, with outdoor patio seating, an exterior lounge and floor to ceiling windows bordering our fourteen seat bar from the beautiful Pacific Ocean. Reservations are strongly encouraged and are usually necessary to obtain preferred seating and they can be made up to one month in advance. The Sushi Bar and Bar area offer full menu dining and are on a first come first serve basis.
Nobu Malibu is known for exquisite cuisine featuring Nobu Matsuhisa’s signature dishes such as Tiradito, Yellowtail Sashimi with Jalapeno, and Black Cod with Miso. We also have some Malibu favorites created by our Executive Chef Gregorio Stephenson including Ribeye with Truffle Butter Sauce and Crispy Maui Onions, Heirloom Tomato and Snapper New Style, as well as Kobe Beef with Crispy Shiitake Mushrooms and Sugar Snap Peas.
